Coming Soon

This page is for the women who take classes from me in Evansville, but I don’t mind if anyone else wants to take a peek! I teach at Sew Tech on Bayard Park Drive in Evansville, IN. If you live in the area, come by the shop sometime. If you don’t, come by when you are in the area! Lisa sells Viking and Pfaff sewing machines, a good assortment of quality fabrics, and notions.
I just had to post this today because I started playing with the 4 Patch Posy blocks last night. I am going to offer this as a class later this year. I think you will be very excited to see what this project will look like. First pic is the fabric. You need a fairly large floral print. I chose two that I am going to try. You also need a 12 inch repeat, or more. Both of these pieces have a 12 inch repeat.

I totally love this funky aqua/orange/pink/yellow print. I bought all there was of this color, but Lisa has it in black that would look very cool, maybe with some hot pink sashings. This is the “Sew You, Sew Fun” collection by RJR fabrics.

This one is called “Dandelion Days”, made by Camelot Cottons.

I haven’t started blocks using this one yet because I need another repeat. I didn’t quite get enough. I have to have 4 repeats. It’s a 4 patch block, right?
Ok, are you ready? Here are some of the blocks I have made so far. These will finish at 5 1/4 inches.

The next ones are laying on some pale yellow fabric that I think will be great for the sashings.

This project is fun! The cutting goes fast and the blocks piece very quickly. Adding the sashings will take more time, but everything else will move right along. You will love this project! I will be scheduling this class sometime this fall. Now I better get to work on Star Crazies, eh?!

I will be posting photos of the blocks from the Dandelion Days fabric soon. One thing I notice as I am cutting and piecing that I would like to convey before you buy fabric for this project. You may want a more “crowded” floral. I notice with the purple cloth that there is a lot of distance between motifs. I think the blocks are coming out alright, but technically, you may want a fabric with more flowers on it. You will see what I mean when I post the blocks. Even the turquoise one has a considerable amount of space between the flowers. I would purchase fabric with flowers no farther apart than what is on the Sew You, Sew Fun fabric.

Well, I know I said in the last post I would be posting soon…and here it is May. April was a very busy month. I taught a class at Sew Tech, went to Chicago for Festival, gave a lecture/trunk show and taught a workshop at a guild when I got back, and then went to Paducah quilt show for a couple of days. Yesterday, I had to get the sample for the June class ready. (See the Classes In Evansville page) I have actually had no time to work on the purple blocks…til today. So here they are. My plan is to set them on point with the yellow fabric for the sashings. The green will be used for the setting triangles (something you always have to have when you set blocks on point). I will post the finished project when I get to that point, but for now, here are the blocks from the “Dandelion Days” fabric.

I also have good news and bad news. The bad news is…today I was working on these blocks with a quilting friend. She fell in love with the purple fabric, called the shop and bought the rest of the bolt. And that means there is none left for you guys! The good news is that Sew Tech is looking into getting another bolt. If that should not work out, there are plenty of other good fabrics at Sew Tech to do this project with. And since there is no pre-cutting for this class, you can wait til the day of class and enlist my help if you need it in choosing a fabric. I am planning to schedule this class sometime in September or October.

I have been working on the purple 4 patch posy and this is how far I have gotten. I am now out of fabric and will have to get more when I get to Sew Tech again. The blocks set on point with the yellow sashing makes a very exciting quilt. I also love how many different blocks this fabric makes.

Here is the second one, not as far along, but a few blocks and sashings are joined. I used an orange hand dye for the corner squares.

So there are a several different ways to set these blocks; these are only two options. I will have these samples at class on the 31st.

I was thinking about posting the pictures of these blocks on the web and copyright and I thought I should also mention that the 4 Patch Posy quilt pattern is by H.D. Designs! Mary Lou Hallenbeck is the creator of this fun quilt design.
